Will You Remember: Music of the Great War with Piedmont Opera

ABOUT THE EVENT

A hundred years ago, America had just entered the “war to end all wars.” From Maurice Ravel to Jerome Kern, how did music respond to this culture-changing event?  Join Piedmont Opera for a concert that will explore the music of this era.

Songs from Jerome Kern’s Broadway hits as well as Irving Berlin’s all-soldier musical “Yip, Yip, Yaphank“ will be performed.  Pianist Dmitri Shteinberg performs excerpts from Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin, which pays tribute to the composer’s friends who were killed in WW1.

Featuring: James Allbritten, Jodi Burns, Allison Chickering, Alden Pridgen, David Maize, Eric Powell, Marilyn Taylor, and Logan Webber

Nancy Johnston, piano

Charles Shafer & Naiara Sánchez, violins; Matthew Troy, viola; and Jennifer Alexandra Johnston, cello
