Lyricosa String Quartet

Violinist Carol Chung is Concertmaster of the North Carolina Opera Orchestra and plays as a regular substitute or in an acting section violin capacity with the North Carolina Symphony. In the summers, she serves as a member of the artist faculty at the Renova Music Festival in New Castle/Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. She also maintains private teaching studios in both violin and Alexander Technique and serves on the faculties of the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute and the Lamar Stringfield Music Camp. A former member of the Colorado Music Festival, she was also a founding member of the piano quartet Quercus from 2009 to 2017 and served for many years as an adjunct instructor of violin at Meredith College. Before moving to Raleigh, Carol was also a member of the Canton (Ohio) and Virginia Symphony orchestras. She holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in violin performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and has worked and performed with members of the Tokyo, Vermeer, Cavani and Juilliard Quartets.

Lucy Greenleaf regularly performs with the North Carolina Opera orchestra and as a substitute violinist in the North Carolina symphony. She also performs often for shows at DPAC, including the American Ballet Theatre. Lucy earned her undergraduate degree in Violin Performance from Florida State University. She continued her education with a master’s degree in music from San Francisco Conservatory with a focus in chamber music and baroque studies. Outside of performing with Lyricosa, Lucy owns her business, Arioso Strings, where she contracts various string ensembles to play for weddings and other special events.

Simon Ertz is Principal Viola of the Winston Salem Symphony and the North Carolina Opera Orchestra. He plays as a regular substitute in both the Charlotte and North Carolina Symphonies. He has appeared as soloist with the Winston Salem Symphony and regularly performs on the Greensboro Symphony Chamber Music Series. After graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music, Simon worked with orchestras across the UK, including the BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Northern Chamber Orchestra. As a member of the Degas Quartet from 2002 until 2010, Simon has performed in venues across the country including appearing as guest artists at the Aspen Music Festival, the Chicago Chamber Music Society and at the Library of Congress where he performed on the Tuscan Medici Stradivarius. Since moving to North Carolina, Simon completed a Doctoral of Musical Arts at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and now teaches at UNC in Chapel Hill. He plays a viola made by his brother, Neil Ertz.

Rosalind Leavell regularly performs with the Carolina Ballet, the North Carolina Opera Orchestra, and as a substitute cellist in the North Carolina Symphony. She received a Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and then continued her education at the University of Minnesota, where she earned her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. While living in Minnesota, Rosalind was the Principal Cellist of the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra and was featured on Classical Minnesota Public Radio. She performed as a substitute cellist with the Minnesota Orchestra, and as a soloist with the Bloomington (MN) Symphony Orchestra and the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra. A passionate teacher, Rosalind is on the faculty of Triangle Area Suzuki Talent Education, a Suzuki school in Raleigh. She also maintains a large private cello studio with students of all ages and levels.
