ABOUT THIS EVENT
Black Voices is a concert program that integrates Classical, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Spoken Word, presenting works all created by African-American artists.
The program consists of poetry by Langston Hughes, Ntozake Shange, Maya Angelou, a well as original spoken word material, complemented with music by Duke Ellington, William Grant Still, Harry Burleigh, and original compositions by the Warp Trio.
Black Voices evolves from an effort to share with our audiences some of the lesser-known specific contributions of African –Americans to the cultural tapestry that defines the United States, whilst calling to light the simultaneous tremendous impact at large on our culture.
Mikael Darmanie, piano; Josh Henderson, violin; Ju Young Lee, cello; Rick Martinez, percussion; Emily Haughton, dancer; Likwuid, spoken word/Emcee
